What a great start to our season the last week has been. A terrific meeting tonight that had us gripped from start to finish.
It was always going to be hard battle...very hard! Newport came to us with virtually a full team of Somerset track experts. Home track to Jordan for the past couple of years, Brents home track last year, Lemo used to be our captain and the Fryer..well nuff said!! Yeah it was always going to be close and it certainly turned out that way!

Cory took a well deserved 'Rider of the Night', but it was a shame that one rider had to be singled out. For me it was Emil, but only by a 'gnat's doo-dah'! All of the guys showed drive and determination last night, which bodes well forthe future. Justin looked good didn't he considering that he has only just arrived...from 35 degrees to about 5 dgrees.

The atmosphere in the bar afterwards was fantastic, with Crouch and Johno almost being persuaded to do a 'turn' on the stage. Great stuff.

It was good to see Our Doyley in the clubhouse last night. Such a great shame that his season got off to such a bad start. He is off back to Oz in a few days to get his shoulder looked at and to recouperate properly. Get well soon mate!

Well it's over to Dave T (click below) now for his in-depth match report.

Mike Mannning

p.s. Spare a thought for Jay who injured his hand in a fall in the 2nd half. He was off to hospital to get it checked out so not too much to reprt yet.
Update...NO BROKEN BONES ONLY SEVERE BRUISING!
