CORY GATHERCOLE

MORE PICS SOON
Born: 2nd December 1986

HOME: Irymple, Victoria, Australia

Height: 180cm
Nickname: Tugga (Dont ask why!)

Cory arrived in the UK from Australia at the beginning of 2007 season to race in the Premier League for the first time having won both the Western Australian and Victorian State championships in his homeland. He is following in the footsteps of his cousin Leigh Adams who rides for Elite Leaguers Swindon and who has been established as one of the top riders in the world for many years. But Cory is a star in the making in his own right and, following an impressive debut seaso nin 2007. Corey's 2008 seasons expected progress was dogged by injuries.

Cory Speaks Exclusively to Somerset Rebels Website (9th February 2009)

Somerset ‘Sharp’ Rebel’s new signing, Cory Gathercole, is looking forward to lining up for the Rebels when the new speedway starts in little more than a month’s time.

Speaking from his home in Australia exclusively for the Rebels website, Gathercole felt he had a reasonable season ‘Down Under,’ as he explains;

“Overall I think my Australian season went as well as could be expected, especially as I needed some surgery to clear up a niggling injury which I got out of the way a couple of days after I arrived home. That put me off the bike for 6 weeks, but I wanted to get it sorted out sooner rather than later.”
“I was reasonably happy with how things went in the Aussie title,” continued the 22 year old, “especially as they were my first rides back, although the Mildura round of the Championship was a disappointment. I missed the semi final, coming in 8th on count back in both Newcastle and Adelaide, but in saying that I did beat a couple of Elite League riders so I think with a bit more bike time to work on my starts I'll be well sorted for the new season in the UK.”

“Finally, I took part in the big meeting in Perth a week or so ago, where ‘Johno’ finished fourth. The meeting wasn't too bad but a couple of spills kept me down in the final results. Other than that just busy working long hours trying to get a bit more money together for more bikes and engines as I am a expecting a fairly hectic English season. I am leaving here this week, and although looking forward to the UK season and riding at Somerset, I’m not looking forward to the cold weather you guys have been having recently!”

“See you all at Press and Practice Day.”
